About Berea College
Berea, the South's first interracial and coeducational college, focuses on learning, labor, and service. All students must work 10 hours weekly as part of their educational experience and to earn money for books, room and board. Berea charges no tuition, admitting academically promising students, primarily from Appalachia, who have limited economic resources. Graduates from Berea go on to distinguish themselves and the College in many fields, including science, arts, education, government, and social services.
