What Makes Us Special

About Washington College

Located in Maryland's scenic Chesapeake Bay region, close to Washington, DC, we were chartered in 1782 under the patronage of George Washington as the first college of the new nation. Our mission today remains the same: "to educate citizens for the vital task of democracy." Situated in the heart of America's largest estuary, we promote innovative environmental initiatives. Known as a haven for the arts, we award a literary prize of national renown.
